Empowering women to empower Sub-Saharan Africa

Partner countries

Since 2015, twelve sub-Saharan countries have sought to reduce gender inequality through SWEDD

The Sub-Saharan Africa Women’s Empowerment and Demographic Dividend project (SWEDD+) is currently active in Burkina Faso, Chad, The Gambia, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal, and Togo.

During the previous decade (2015-2025), when the program operated under the name SWEDD (Sahel Women’s Empowerment and Demographic Dividend), participating countries also included Benin, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, and Niger.

The project also invests in building the capacity of strategic regional partners such as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).
